Why Verizon Repair Phone Numbers Can Take Longer Than You Think
A recent report from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) revealed that the vast majority of phone numbers used in the United States don’t last much longer than one to two years, even when you’re calling from a landline phone.
The report found that while Verizon repairs a very small fraction of phone lines, it can take an average of six months to three years to get a new phone.
This is a significant problem for consumers who have been trying to repair their phones for years, but it’s also a problem for Verizon, which has been increasingly pushing to increase repair time to make up for the loss of phone sales during the recession.
It’s a situation Verizon says it’s trying to address with its “new phone plan,” which allows customers to upgrade to a more expensive device.
“The new phone plan will allow customers to buy an additional phone with their existing Verizon account, with a one-year warranty and no additional fees,” Verizon says in a statement to The Verge.
“Additionally, if the device is purchased with a qualifying credit card, the customer will be eligible for a $5 credit toward their next phone purchase.”
If you have an iPhone, you might have seen this news story, in which Verizon said it plans to offer a free phone upgrade on the company’s iPhone app.
“Our new plan will give customers access to our popular phone repair and support tools, including our iPhone app, to ensure they are in control of their phone,” the company said.
But for many consumers, that plan isn’t enough.
“I’ve never been happy with Verizon’s repair service, so I’m very disappointed to hear this is happening,” a Verizon customer told Ars.
“It is frustrating that you can’t repair your device after you’ve been out for more than a year without the company taking the time to check the phone for signs of damage and making repairs,” another customer added.
“You should be able to do it within three months.
Why is Verizon not doing that?”
Verizon says that the problem with repair times is because most phones are purchased and sold through third-party sellers.
These third-parties offer a phone to customers for a discounted price, and the phone is then sold at the end of the process.
In the case of phones that have been purchased through third parties, they often do not offer the same level of service and warranty that Verizon offers.
The new phone plans will offer customers a choice of “one-year warranties,” but only when the phone has been in use for at least one year.
“When you buy a phone from a third- party, it is a third party that has the right to make all of the decisions,” a spokesperson for Verizon told Ars via email.
“In order to ensure that customers are able to take full advantage of the service offered by our repair partners, we are making this change to our plan.
If you choose to continue with your phone as of December 31, you will be able take advantage of our two-year and one-month warranties on all new phones purchased through our phone repair partners.
In addition, we will offer an additional one-time two-for-one financing program, where customers can take advantage a one percent discount on new phones through a third person company.”
The spokesperson said that if you’re looking for more information about the new phone service, you can read the statement in its entirety here.
We asked Verizon for comment.
The Verge contacted Verizon to ask if it plans on improving the repair times for its customers.
The spokesperson sent Ars a statement, saying, “We are committed to improving our customer service and are working with the companies that make their phones.
In this case, we have made a few improvements to our repair service that we are currently working on.”
